Five universes

The Franciscaines site renews the usual separation among museums, media libraries and cultural areas, giving birth to a new concept that combines several cultural elements: books, paintings, photographies, prints, videos, music...

En savoir plus

Thousands of documents acquired by the city have been divided into five multifaceted universes, accessible in a very innovative way. Ideally, this experience should reproduce the Web users’ surfing from a subject to another. The Franciscanes will add recreational, interactive and intuitive sceneries to an environment designed for an excellent consultation.   Visitors may for example be captured by a movie played on a terminal in the “Deauville heritage” universe and then discover more about the director of this movie and his/her interesting connections with the city. Crossing the hallway, visitors can then reach the “Music, cinema, spectacle” universe to learn more about the director’s movies and career or associate directors…
In the Franciscaines site, visitors are active, free to choose among multiple proposed sceneries, itineraries and resources. They can explore at their own pace to increase their knowledge through an itinerary on the trail of collections in a welcoming place they end up turning into their own place.
At the opening of the Franciscaines, five universes will be accessible to the public:

MUSIC, CINEMA, SHOW
EXPLORE THE WORLD
HEALTH, WELLNESS

A flourishing cultural life

The cultural life of Deauville and the Franciscaines will combine. Some shows will be performed in the auditorium situated in the ancient Chapel, some festivals and major international events will take place or be extended here.

En savoir plus

Deauville cultural agenda is marked by six main events:
> American Film Festival;
> Easter Music Festival and Musical August welcoming in residence since 1996 some young soloists;
> Cultural season;
> Books and Music Festival, exploring each year new relations
between words and notes;
> “Planches Contact”, a festival of photographic creation.

The artist residences – about a dozen per year – may also flourish in an appropriate environment, propitious to organize meetings with the public.
The Franciscaines will also feel the beat of the other main events of the city: sport and equestrian or economic events will offer the opportunity to meet and share, essential values of this land.

Temporary exhibitions

The Franciscaines exhibitions are integral part of a process involving the exchange of temporary exhibitions with other museums and institutions, such as Beaux-Arts, History and archaeology or Science and technology museums, in France and abroad, to multiply and diversify the exhibition agenda proposed to the public.

En savoir plus

To establish its role an attractive and flourishing place of destination, the Franciscaines agenda is regularly adjusted or modified, proposing new events in the longer or shorter term.
This choice is the main feature of this place, fascinating regular or occasional visitors. Each year, the program proposes temporary exhibitions –including a major exhibition in high season-, lectures, concerts…

The André Hambourg museum

Starting point of the reflection about the Franciscaines, it shows the donation made to the City by André Hambourg’s spouse, including 536 masterpieces painted from 1925 to 1999. Hambourg, painter of the Fleet, lithographer and designer, developed a representational art which found its inspiration in the “Côte Fleurie”.

En savoir plus

The donation will be complemented by about forty works collected by the artist or exchanged with his colleagues (Marie Laurencin, Foujita, Van Dongen, Derain…). In the museum space exclusively dedicated to the artist, a rotation of works will be organized to show to the public most of the paintings belonging to the collection. The profusion of drawings encourages the creation of a permanent space completely devoted to their valorisation.
Different themes will trace the evolution of André Hambourg’s paintings in the broader framework of the art history of that period, comparing his artistic production to that of other artists.

SPECIALIZED DOCUMENTARY RESOURCES

En savoir plus

The Franciscanes collections are associated with two specialized documentary resources: one focused on the "Heritage of Deauville", following multiple digital donations, and the other on "Horses", resulting from horse auctions’ donations and acquisitions. The ultimate objective is creating a reference documentary base, as equestrian activity is a major sector in the economy of the city.

COLLECTIONS OF CONTEMPORARY PHOTOS

En savoir plus

Deauville, proud of its collaboration with the world’s leading photographers over the last century, launched in 2010 the Planche(S) Contact Festival of photographic creation, the only festival in France to be supported by public orders, counting on a specific artistic production. This creation opportunity gives to the city a large contemporary heritage including pictures captured by Massimo Vitali, Paolo Roversi, David Amstrong, Kishin Shinoyama and many others.   On the other hand, Deauville continues being the protagonist of photographic series taken by the leading photographs of the century: Robert Capa, Gisèle Freund, les Frères Seeberger, Jacques-Henri Lartigue…
