FOUNDING PRINCIPLE: FIVE UNIVERSES TO DISCOVER

The creation of this cultural material renews the usual separation among museums, media libraries, cultural and community spaces. This project is innovative in its characteristics and objectives: while complying with the necessary restrictions for the viability of any of these entities, the main aim is to combine different notions to provide visitors with a new approach on the cultural world. This approach is based on the creation of several universes. Regardless of the tools used (books, paintings, photos, prints, sounds…), each masterpiece becomes the protagonist.

Collecting and showing in the same space multiple resources about every specific theme to ensure an easy consultation and comprehension to everybody. That’s the challenge issued by the project team. Why? Because multiple are the tools offered by the Franciscanes collections: from documentaries to prestigious paintings, from books to films and from testimonials of the Deauville citizens to photos taken by artists.

VISITORS BECOME PROTAGONISTS

Thousands of documents acquired by the city have been divided into five multifaceted universes, accessible in a very innovative way. Ideally, this experience should reproduce the Web users’ surfing from a subject to another. The Franciscanes will add recreational, interactive and intuitive sceneries to an environment designed for an excellent consultation. Visitors may for example be captured by a movie played on a terminal in the “Deauville heritage” universe and then discover more about the director of this movie and his/her interesting connections with the city. Crossing the hallway, visitors can then reach the “Music, cinema, spectacle” universe to learn more about the director’s movies and career or associate directors…they may finally watch another movie and stay there even longer…

In the Franciscaines site, visitors are active, free to choose among multiple proposed sceneries, itineraries and resources. They can explore at their own pace to increase their knowledge through an itinerary on the trail of collections in a welcoming place they end up turning into their own place.

At the opening of the Franciscaines, five universes will be accessible to the public. Each universe will provide access to a digital library allowing visitors to borrow resources and bring them home. The main theme of these interconnected universes will be changed every 4 to 5 years.
