Barlen Pyamootoo

Invited to the Books & Music Festival 2017

Barlen Pyamootoo was born in 1960 in the Mauritius. His family fled the island after the financial ruin of sugar mills and their consequent unemployment in 1976. They went to Strasbourg where Pyamootoo has been teaching literature until 1993. Since 1994, he lives between Paris and Trou-d'eau-douce (Mauritius). He has adapted and shot Bénarès for cinema in 2006: it was the first Mauritian film, performed by Mauritian actors and shot in Creole language.

Under Editions de l’Olivier, he published Bénarès (1999), Le Tour de Babylone (2002), Salogi’s (2008).
